How to cast or mirror Telegram to your TV
Telegram has no TV app of its own, but there are several ways to get Telegram videos onto the big screen. Here are the five ways to do it, and when each one makes sense.
The options at a glance
| Method | Works on | Phone stays free? | Remote control? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chromecast button in Telegram (Android) | Chromecast, Google TV, TVs with Chromecast built in | Mostly | No, controlled from the phone |
| Screen mirroring | Most smart TVs, Chromecast, Apple TV | No | No |
| Telegram Web in the TV browser | Some smart TVs | Yes | Barely |
| Laptop + HDMI cable | Any TV with HDMI | Yes | No |
| Native TV app (TeleV) | Android TV, Google TV, Chromecast with Google TV | Yes | Yes |
1. The Chromecast button in Telegram for Android
Since March 2025, Telegram for Android can cast a video straight to a Chromecast, a Google TV or a TV with Chromecast built in:
- Open the video in Telegram on your Android phone.
- Tap the settings (gear) icon and choose Chromecast.
- Pick your TV from the list.
This is the quickest way to put one video on the TV. You still find and start every video on the phone, one at a time, and control playback from there.
2. Screen mirroring from your phone
Mirroring copies your whole phone screen to the TV, so it works with Telegram like any other app.
- Android: pull down Quick Settings, tap Cast, Smart View or Screen Mirroring (the name depends on the phone), and pick your TV.
- iPhone: open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and pick an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV.
The downsides: the phone has to stay on and unlocked, notifications show up on the TV, video quality depends on your Wi-Fi, and the picture is often letterboxed in portrait mode.
3. Telegram Web in the TV's browser
Some smart TV browsers can open web.telegram.org and sign in with a QR code. It's free and needs no extra hardware, but Telegram Web is designed for a mouse and keyboard. With a TV remote, moving around is slow and video playback is often unreliable.
4. A laptop connected with HDMI
Plug a laptop into the TV with an HDMI cable and use Telegram Desktop or Telegram Web. The picture is good and it works on any TV, but you need a laptop next to the TV and a mouse to control it.
5. A native Telegram app on the TV
If your TV runs Android TV or Google TV, or you plug in a Chromecast with Google TV, you can install TeleV, a free Telegram app built for TVs. You sign in once by scanning a QR code with Telegram on your phone, and from then on your channels, groups and chats open directly on the TV:
- Videos and live streams play on the TV, not through your phone.
- Everything is navigated with the TV remote.
- Continue watching, playback speed and favorite channels.
TeleV is an independent, viewer-only app built on TDLib, Telegram's official library. See the setup guide and the list of supported devices.
Which one should I use?
- Watching one video now, from an Android phone: the Chromecast button in Telegram.
- Watching one video now, from an iPhone or on a TV without Chromecast: screen mirroring.
- Watching Telegram channels or live streams regularly: a native app on Android TV or Google TV.
- Samsung or LG TV: mirroring works, or add a Chromecast with Google TV and install TeleV on it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cast Telegram videos to Chromecast?
Yes, from Android. Since March 2025, Telegram for Android can cast a video to a Chromecast or Google TV: open the video, tap the settings (gear) icon and choose Chromecast. You cast one video at a time from your phone. To browse your channels and live streams on the TV itself with the remote, install TeleV on a Chromecast with Google TV.
How do I screen mirror Telegram to my TV?
On Android, open Quick Settings and tap Cast or Smart View, then pick your TV. On iPhone, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring and pick an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV. Then play the video in Telegram. The phone must stay on and unlocked while you watch.
What is the best way to watch Telegram on a TV?
For a single video, the Chromecast button in Telegram for Android is quickest. For watching channels and live streams regularly, a native TV app such as TeleV is more comfortable: you browse and play everything on the TV with the remote, and your phone stays free. On TVs without Chromecast, screen mirroring works for occasional viewing.
Can I use Telegram Web on a smart TV?
Sometimes. Telegram Web (web.telegram.org) can open in some smart TV browsers, but it is built for a mouse and keyboard, so it is hard to use with a remote and video playback is often unreliable.
Can I watch Telegram live streams on TV without my phone?
Yes, with a native TV app. TeleV plays live streams and video chats from your channels and groups directly on Android TV and Google TV, as a viewer only.
